CHALLENGE: An experienced R&D leader for a Fortune 500 corporation operating around the world was highly valued for her technical competence. But, she lacked the communication skills, confidence and political savvy required for a more strategic role.
APPROACH: Siegfried Dunlay designed a multi-month coaching program uniquely designed to build communication and leadership skills. Strategies included soliciting 360° feedback; building a development plan; teaching specific communication skills through videotaping and playback; shadowing in meetings; and bi-weekly coaching calls.
RESULTS: When the program concluded, the global leader had made measurable progress in every key goal. She was promoted, and her executive sponsor requested that the program be extended to provide guidance as she transitioned to her new role.
